One of my Barnyard Series, which focuses on country women and their critters, this young woman has just had two chickadees alight on her hands. Her head and the lower parts of her legs and arms are polymer clay, but her body is made of soft fabric. Her features are highlighted with an acrylic wash. I designed and hand-sewed her dress out of pure cotton, and her long hair comes straight from a Vermont sheep. The figure is supported by a hidden metal stand which is affixed to a base of painted clay. Because she is articulated at the shoulders, elbows, knees and waist, you can change her pose at will, or even remove her from the stand altogether.
I make these figures entirely by hand in my workshop in Vermont. Each is completely individual, reflecting my changing moods and inspirations, just as the fields and mountains outside my window change with the hour and the season.
